The cold weather isn’t slowing anyone down this weekend. While it’s officially a couple weeks until the first day of winter, everyone’s gearing up for it. Whether you’re the skiing/snowboarding type, the shopping type, or the hunkering down type, you’ll find a fun event going on this weekend that’s right up your alley.
Saturday @ Millwood Brewing Company, Spokane Valley – Not all of us look forward to flurries and blizzards, but skiers and snowboarders practically pray for the white fluffy stuff. That’s exactly what Millwood Brewery’s upcoming SnowJam Party is for, a gathering of winter sports junkies ushering in the snowiest season. They’ll be screening ski clips, pouring some of Millwood’s delicious beers, and raffling off premium winter gear and Mt. Spokane season passes, with all proceeds going directly to the resort’s ski race team.
Friday @ The Panida Theater, Sandpoint – Selkirk Outdoor Leadership & Education (SOLE)’s annual fundraiser screening event supports getting under-served youth in our community unplugged and connected to their winter wildlands.
Thurs-Sun @ The Coeur d’Alene Resort – The Travolta Christmas show at the Coeur d’Alene Resort is a local holiday tradition. Starring Ellen, sister Margaret Travolta, daughter Molly Allen and featuring Abbey Crawford, and directed by Troy Nickerson with accompaniment by Jennifer Twitchell on piano and Eugene Jablonsky on Bass.
Thurs – Sun @ Lake City Playhouse, Coeur d’Alene – Set in the 1940s in the fictional town of Hohman, Indiana, the musical follows 9-year-old Ralphie Parker and his quest for the Holy Grail of Christmas gifts — an Official Red Ryder carbine-action 200-shot Range Model air rifle.
Friday @ Jacklin Arts & Cultural Center, Post Falls – Michael Jaramillo and a new group of accomplished musician friends ring in the season with jazz. Doors open at 6:30 for art viewing, hot cider, wine and refreshments served.
Friday & Saturday @ Kroc Center, Coeur d’Alene – Mozart’s majestic “Prague Symphony” opens the Symphony’s December concert this year. Following that is his popular “Overture to Le nozze de Figaro (The Marriage of Figaro).” In keeping with the season, the program includes selections from Tchaikovsky’s “Nutcracker Suite.” Musicians from North Idaho Youth Symphony join the Orchestra for the second half of the program playing holiday favorites, concluding with the annual singalong.
Saturday & Sunday @ NIC, Coeur d’Alene – Featuring the North Idaho College Wind Symphony under the direction of Bryan Hannaford, with the Cardinal Chorale and North Idaho College Chamber Singers.
Friday @ We Care, Helping Heroes, Hayden – We Care, Helping Heroes is a nonprofit supporting local veterans. They’re hosting this early holiday dance party to kick off the season with local big band Tuxedo Junction. The event includes a silent auction, non-alcoholic drinks, appetizers, music and dancing.
Saturday @ Rathdrum Senior Center – Shop from 20+ local artisans and 10 direct sales vendors. Bring a can of food or non-perishable item to help support the local Rathdrum Food Bank. After the event, stick around Rathdrum for the Tree Lighting Ceremony in the evening.
Saturday @ Nez Perce National Historical Park, Spalding – Each year the park fills the Spalding Visitor Center with dozens of local Nez Perce artisans who demonstrate and sell their art. Artwork ranges from traditional to contemporary. Intricate beadwork as well as weavings, paintings and sculptures can all be bought from local Nez Perce artists. Not only do visitors help support Nez Perce artists, they also have a chance to ask them questions and learn about their crafts.
Saturday @ McIntire Park, Hayden – Join the city of Hayden for its annual Christmas parade followed by a Christmas tree lighting ceremony in McIntire Family Park.
